New data types are not supported by Rockwell’s communications externally from the controller yet. As such our ABCIP communication driver cannot support them either. Such data types are for internal use only within the current firmware.

The OI Server uses the ADS Library for communication and should support any TCP/IP Ethernet Beckhoff device compatible with the ADS Library version you install. The following devices were used in the conformance tests:

  • ADS Library: TC1000:TC3
  • Beckhoff TwinCAT PLC/IO on Windows XP/7/8
  • CX1000 and CX1020 with Windows Embedded Compact 5.0 and 6.0
  • PLC BC9000, BX9000 and CP66xx with Windows Embedded Compact 5.0 for ARMV4i processor
  • The TC1000:TC3 Library should also be compatible with CX1010, CX1020, CX1030, CX2000, CX5000, CX5100, CX8000, and CX9000 and any other device hosting the TwinCAT runtime 2 and 3.

If you are unsure if your specific device is supported, please contact your Beckhoff support and confirm your device compatibility with the ADS Library.

Licensing :

The Gateway communications driver is a protocol converter.  Licensing rules are as follows: 

Unlicensed – the driver does not attempt to acquire a license if:

  • Must be used/installed with other Wonderware software.  
    See the EULA.
  • For a specific protocol, only one instance of a driver is used
  • All the legacy connections (DDE, SuiteLink, OPC DA, OPC UA, ArchestrA, InTouch) do not require a license.
  • Only MQTT requires a license (and only if more than 32 tags are registered)
  • Up to 32 tags are registered for the driver

Standard – the driver requires a standard license if:

  • For a specific protocol, only one instance of a driver is used
  • More than 32 tags are registered for the driver (MQTT)

Professional – the driver requires a professional license if:

  • Multi-Instance – For a specific protocol, enables configuring (cloning) and running multiple cloned instances of a driver
  • Multi-Version – The driver runs concurrently with older versions of legacy drivers (FSGateway)
